Raw Challenge: the Obstacles

RAW CHALLENGE mantra:  ” We focus on fun, teamwork and positivity while jamming the most amount of obstacles per kilometer in Australia for the best value obstacle course around!”

Today I thought I would show a few of the 20 obstacles that are listed on the site and predict a bit about it.

First, in the climbing category, The Guillotine:  a 15 feet tall timber walls with a blade at the top.

I’m currently thinking this is a do-able obstacle based on my tree climbing skills as a child and my rock climbing skills as a young adult.  I’m sure those are skills that never go away.  After all, even old monkeys climb trees — right?  (Lets not dwell on the fact that said monkey hasn’t seen a tree for a bunch of years)

Second, in the Crawling category, Charlotte’s Web: Weave, duck and crawl through the countless ropes designed to mimic a spiders web.

Really, is this any different than playing twister?  Don’t get me wrong, I don’t excel at Twister, but those ropes look movable and are knives not allowed?  Unless I slip a disc, I think I will be fine.

And now in the Balance category: The Balance Beams:  30 feet long timber beams fixed at both ends.

Balance beams.  if no one touches, breaths, shakes or tries to get on the beam at the same time as me, I’m golden.  Oh, do I get a balance pole and who is in charge of cleaning that slippery mud off just before I get up there?

These seem conquerable but are not the toughest on the course.  I will go over a few more in a couple days.  Best not to overwhelm myself with thinking about too many of them just now.

Wilma,  Today the “Mom’s” and I went and made several items at the local pottery painting studio.  Some for donations for upcoming auctions for fundraisers and some for personal fun and use.  I made you and I something for when we complete the race.

I went to the dog park with a friend and walked for about an hour, did my planks, squats, upright rows and presses.

Love Betty.

Raw Challenge 2015

How this insanity began, is a couple short days ago, my friend in Australia posted that she is signing up for the Raw Challenge Race in Sydney.  She is 52 so this is a pretty cool thing to do, so of course I chime in that I would happily do it with her but cannot afford the plane ticket and leave it at that.

A couple days go by and I text her that I am happy that she has made some close enough friends over there to train and do this race with.  – She is over there with her two girls and husband helping with the care of her father in law.  She replies that no, she has not made friends of that nature yet and is training alone.  I offer up the encouragement that maybe the training and race will bring to her a new friend.

And then, before I can stop myself, I offer up the idea that I could train with her albeit from half way around the world, opposite hemisphere and 18 hour difference.  She replies that then I need to get on a plane and also come over.  I assure her that I will absolutely do so if I can finagle a ticket from somewhere as I’m not thinking my husband has this on the spending radar for approval, but in the meantime, she will have someone to share the pain of training with.
